Mural of Hamburg
Barca an der Alester
Barca is one of the most bustling, popular sailing bar on the Alster in the heart of Hamburg. I was commissioned to create a 3 x 2.5 m2 mural to breathe new life into the city. The work has taken 8 days, over a hundred hours, from start to finish.
Concept
An illustration is a place where we can free our imagination and visualize what we can’t do in the real life. The mural depicted the city of Hamburg with the bird’s-eyes view and showed the passion that most Hamburgers for. I have interviewed many Hamburgers about what they love and what they feel for their city. More than 90% of the answers were relative to water, such as the sea, rivers, lakes. Regarding the history of the city, Hamburg used to be the 4th largest seaport in the world before WWII. The huge, gentle marine life, Humpback Whale, jumped out to the image as the result of all the story, people and experience I collected in Hamburg.
